UACWA also has a mentoring program to help young adults become leaders in society. Topics such as how to write a winning resume and cover letter to secure jobs, life skills, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills will be discussed, how to attend interview sessions and have an effective elevator speech will be required. We are in need of mentors who have the capacity to teach these topics and more that can help individuals become steady and independent in society.
UACWA acknowledges that our work takes place in Mi’kma’ki, the traditional and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) People first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with the surrender of lands and resources but in fact, recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) titles and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. UACWA is grateful to L’nu for their knowledge and deep connection with this land that continues to guide UACWA forward.
